Turn Inward – Contemplative Prayer

When I was going through my divorce 12 years ago, I was beginning my spiritual awakening. It was a time when I felt so close to the Divine. It was so pure and so was I. I was thirsty and felt as if I could not get enough of this intoxicating essence that was calling me forth.

I was searching to know myself greater and with that came changes. I remember having this incredible inner knowing that I was not running from something but towards it. I knew I wanted to get closer to God so I descided to go spend time at a Catholic Retreat Center called The Cenacle in Lantana, Florida.

I chose a Directed and Silent Prayer Retreat of 5 days.

An opportunity for prayerful solitude, in which you meet daily with a retreat director to share what has happened in prayer. The director helps you to listen to and recognize what God is saying in your life and where you are being called. Its design allows you to respond to God’s Spirit at your own pace. Scripture and other means are used.

During my stay I had such a profound inner journey after being introduced to Contemplative Prayer  also known as “centering prayer,” is a meditative practice where the practitioner focuses on a word and repeats that word over and over for the duration of the exercise.

I had forgotten how meaningful this practice was for me until tonight’s inquiry to the Divine on my next steps. I came across Ken Wilbur and Thomas Keating speaking about the practice in a youtube video.  Contemplative prayer is a discipline of mind and heart. It is a very receptive time of stillness which opens you up to receive more of the Divine and increase your conscousiness.

I then researched to find this video to assist you in beginning the practice if you wish to begin.

I found this video to be very useful and gave me so much more of Thomas Keating’s wisdom.

I wish that this will assist you in giving of your in most Being to the mysteries of life.
